EOTAS Provision

SEMH Support offers EOTAS provisions as alternative educational arrangements for children unable to attend mainstream schools in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

What is EOTAS Provision?

EOTAS

EOTAS stands for Education Other Than at School. It is a specialised educational service designed for children and young people who are unable to participate in traditional school settings. This provision caters to students who might experience barriers to learning due to physical, emotional, social, or behavioural issues. This service aims to provide a safe, supportive and adapted learning environment that recognises and addresses the individual needs of each student. Through bespoke educational plans and flexible learning approaches, it ensures that all children have the opportunity to succeed and progress in their education outside the conventional classroom environment.

Who is EOTAS For?

EOTAS is ideal for children and young people who, for various reasons, find it challenging to thrive in a standard school setting. This includes students with medical needs, mental health conditions, special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), or those who have experienced exclusions.

Our flexible approach guarantees that education is accessible to all, tailored to meet individual circumstances and requirements, thereby supporting their continuous learning and personal development.

How do we get started with EOTAS?

Step 1: Initial Contact

When a child is not participating in conventional education, several steps are usually involved, typically in collaboration with your local education authority (LEA). This process is referred to as ‘education otherwise than in school,’ commonly shortened to ‘EOTAS.’ According to section 61 of the Children and Families Act 2014, local authorities are permitted to take this route. However, before proceeding, the LEA must discuss this with you and give careful consideration to your opinions.

Step 2: The EOTAS Assessment

We conduct a thorough assessment to determine the most effective educational plan for your child. This assessment is essential to determining the most effective educational strategies tailored to your child’s individual requirements. The insights gained from this assessment are used to create a personalised educational plan.

Step 3: Tailored EOTAS Plan

Based on the assessment, a personalised EOTAS plan is crafted that outlines the teaching methods, resources, and support mechanisms that will be used. We will detail the teaching methods, resources, and support mechanisms that will best support your child’s learning and development.

Step 4: EOTAS Implementation

With all parties in agreement, we will begin to work with you and your child on this tailored educational plan. This phase is supported by continuous monitoring and regular reviews of your child’s progress.

Step 5: Ongoing Support and Review

We adapt and refine the EOTAS plan as necessary to ensure that we are meeting your child’s evolving needs and providing ongoing support throughout their educational journey.
